Abstract:

The article deals with the problem of using buses for airline passengers transport from the terminal to the airplane and back. The use of buses for passenger transport logistics at civil airports has been justified. Also the economic benefits of using airport buses have been shown, particularly with regard to cost calculation by so called low cost carriers.

As the cost of purchase is high for standard airport buses, it is a good idea to adapt city buses to the needs of passenger transport at the airport. The article presents modifications in the body construction and the bus equipment which are necessary to suit passenger transport at the airport.

Also the differences between driving styles of city buses and airport buses have been identified. Attention has been paid to smooth motion at acceleration, deceleration and braking of airport buses. Methodology of synthesis for gear shift algorithms in automatic hydro-mechanical transmissions of airport buses has been offered. Optimisation is based on criteria such as safety and comfort of the passengers resulting from smooth acceleration changes in airport buses.
