Abstract: On 29 March 2017, the United Kingdom started the Brexit procedure - the UK's departure from the European Union. Two days later First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, requested the British government to hold a referendum on Scottish independence, pointing out that Scots "should have the right to choose their own future". UK Prime Minister Theresa May has officially rejected the possibility of a referendum in Scotland. Therefore, the question is whether the possibility of holding a referendum on Scotland's independence should be justified in the event that Britain ceases to be a member of the European Union and the majority of Scots (62%) are against Brexit. This article is an attempt to present selected problems of Scotland in the face of the social, political and economic changes in Britain caused by Brexit. (original abstract)
