Abstract:

This paper introduces the possibility of application of u- and k-coefficient to operational reliability analysis of MV/LV transformer/distribution substations. The failure duration index was shown to have specific constraints in cost-related assessments of electric power system reliability. A direct correlation was assumed to exist between the failure duration and the actual emergency shutdown time, which can be shown with the u- and k-coefficients. The value of both indices has been determined on the basis of empirical data collected at two major power plants in Poland throughout the period of 10 years.
