Abstract: The aim of this research project was to determine the impact of foamed bitumen and bitumen emulsion on physical and mechanical properties and water resistance of cold recycled base course materials. The bitumen binder was added to the recycled material in amount of 2.0% to 3.5% at increments of 0.5%. Portland cement was added in amount of 2.0%. Effects of different binder material amounts on air void content and resilient modulus of the recycled mixtures were investigated. In addition, detrimental impact of water was measured by comparing indirect tensile strengths (soaked and dry) and by determining retained tensile strength of the recycled mixtures. The tests showed that, unlike bitumen emulsion, foamed bitumen applied to the base course materials improves their mechanical properties and moisture resistance. Optimisation of the results allowed stating that application of 2.5% foamed bitumen in the recycled mixtures ensures required physical and mechanical properties and moisture resistance.
