The scope of investigations includes an analysis of tensile elements with a ring notch, subjected to multi-axial stress state defined by stress triaxiality ratio sigma(m)/sigma(e) = 0.739. The main objective of investigations was to experimentally determine and examine the critical value of the void volume fraction f(c), one of the basic microstructural parameters of the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman material model, for S235JR steel. The original experimental method for determining f(c) parameter was used, including strength tests, microstructural examinations and numerical simulations. The obtained value of f(c) was used for the simulation of tensile tests in multi-axial stress state. For a sake of comparison, typical value of f(c), described in the literature, was also used in numerical simulation. Finally, the results of both simulations were compared.
