Complex experimental investigations of boiling heat transfer on structured surfaces in the form of parallel narrow tunnels were taken up. Experimental data were discussed for two kinds of enhanced surfaces: open narrow tunnels and narrow tunnels limited by perforated foil. The experiments were carried out with water. ethanol and FC-72 at atmospheric pressure. The 0.05 mm thick perforated copper foil (hole diameters: 0.3, 0.4. 0.5 mm) was sintered with the fin tips. The range of tunnel width was from 0.6 mm to 1.2 mm and tunnel depth of 10 mm was used. The effects of hole (pore) diameters and tunnel width on nucleate pool boiling were examined. Substantial enhancement of heat transfer coefficient was observed. The best results at boiling water and ethanol were obtained for 1.0 mm wide tunnels with foil hole diameters of 0.5 mm. For FC-72 the best surfaces were those with open tunnels (width 1.0 mm).
