Abstract:

There have been examined some damages of two years old concrete when a lot of its pieces were detached from pavement. The detachment of concrete pieces as a result of aggregate swelling has been stated too when the cores drilled out from the pavement were immersed in water. Some concrete pieces detached from a ceiling slab have been also examined. There have been carried out DTA, DTG, XRD analyses of aggregate grains collected from the pavement and ceiling concretes. The reason of concrete damages was swelling of loamy minerals - illite and vermiculite contained in aggregate grains and the alkali aggregate reaction could have taken place in the ceiling slab.
