The paper presents two methods for determining a local heat transfer coefficient in flow boiling inside a minichannel. Both approaches refer to experimental results. The test section of the conducted experiments contains a minichannel (its deviation from perpendicular is 60 deg) with a refrigerant flowing through it. The heating alloy foil makes one of the channel walls. Thermosensitive liquid crystals on the external foil surface allow to register temperature changes by observing and recording - through a glass pane - changes in the hue distribution along the foil. The aim is to derive the desired heat transfer coefficient from the results supplied by liquid crystal thermography. The first computational approach is based only on Fourier's law, having assumed that the heat flux does not change along the minichannel length. The other approach uses Trefftz method to find the solution. Both approaches give similar final results. The use of equalizing calculus helped to reduce the calculation errors.
