Abstract:

This paper presents the time-domain approach to the analysis of the convergence of continuous-time adaptive control and estimation algorithms. The time-domain definition of persistently exciting signals is introduced and the convergence of estimation algorithms is established in the cases of open-loop and closed-loop systems. An application of the persistency of excitation theory to the design of a globally stable adaptive pole-placement controller is given.
