Końcową konkluzją jest postulat skierowany do decydentów, by podjęli stosowne działania, w celu ukazania we współczesnej przestrzeni miasta, śladów dziewiętnastowiecznych rogatek.
The present paper describes the seven tollgates of the city, which functioned in Kielce in the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries. They were a source of raising funds for the city budget. Based on the analysis of archival historical sources their location was reconstructed. Domaszowska Tollgate was situated on the left-hand side of the road to Domaszewice; Nowo Warszawska Tollgate - in Warszawska Street at the intersection with Polna Street; Bodzentynska Tollgate - at the intersection of IX Wieków Kielc Avenue and Solidarności Avenue; Krakowska Tollgate - at the intersection of Jana Pawła II Street and Krakowska Street; Leonarda Tollgate - at the end of Leonarda Street at the junction with Zagórska Street and Karczówkowska Tollgate - next to the city park just behind a bridge close to the park's pond. The last tollgate called Starowarszawska was located in Piotrkowska Street just behind a bridge on the Silnica River. All of these locations determine the functional and spatial range of Kielce and illustrate the scale of the city in the nineteenth century. What is more, the approximate location of the six twentieth-century tollgates is presented in the paper together with a more detailed description of the architecture and technical condition of the nineteenth-century tollgates, their functional layout and equipment. Only one of them had a wooden construction and was demolished due to its poor technical condition. The remaining tollgates were made of brick. The Author explains formal aspects of establishing the tollgates and their functioning as well as the reasons for their final closure at the beginning of the 1930s. The final conclusion of the paper is the demand addressed to decision-makers to take appropriate action in order to show the location of the nineteenth-century tollgates in the contemporary space of the city.
