Abstract: The article presents the results of tests carried out on S355JR steel specimens, subjected to different variants of laboratory heat treatment. The specimens tested haves following microstructures: ferritic-pearlite, ferritic-bainite and after prolonged annealing, resulting obtaining of ferrite microstructure with large particles of carbides. The strength properties and fracture toughness of S355JR steel with different microstructure types were determined in temperature of laboratory environment. It appeared that for high-plastic materials, which are S355JR steel, in order to obtain the critical value of fracture toughness J(IC) large dimension specimens should be used. The application of specimens with side grooves cuts will be reduced the size of the tested specimens.
