Abstract:

The study presents the quantile method as a means of estimating the influence of the bearing capacity and reliability of connections and nodes on the bearing capacity and reliability of spatial bar structures. It is shown that on the basis of structural reliability analysis performed with the quantile method, in the design process, it is possible to reveal the effect produced by the reliability of nodes and connections, which is a potential source of failures and collapses of complex structures. It is also demonstrated how to increase the bearing capacity and reliability of bar structures by means of coupling bar structures of statically determinate trusses into statically indeterminate complex structures with enhanced bearing capacity and reliability. It is shown that meeting the postulate that the reliability of connections should be greater than that of connected bars is crucial for preventing failures and collapses. Those happen also due to the redistribution of forces caused by bars being excluded from Minimal Critical Sets (MCSs) that occur in Kinematically Admissible Failure Mechanisms (KAFMs) of the structure when connections fail under load.
