At the outset, the types of walls have been discussed, taking into account both the nature of their static work and destiny, as well as their construction solutions. Then by presenting the diagnostic scheme of masonry structures, it has been briefly described each kind of its activities, starting from the analysis of the documentation and the operating conditions of construction, through the vision of local, in-situ and laboratory testing and analysis of limit state design, finishing on an assessment of the technical state.
Discussing on strengthening the walls, both traditional methods and modern technologies for strengthening the masonry structures have been presented. The most applied strengthening methods are: re-erection and lining the walls, strengthening the walls by means of flat steel bars connected with initially prestressed bolts, strengthening the walls with the help of reinforced plasters, reinforcement of the walls by means of Brutt’s Saver rods, cram-ped walls and structural reinforcement of joints in the form of small ladder or truss, braided wire-mesh reinfor-cement and bitingly-towed mesh.
