Abstract:

The paper presents the impact of different cutting angles during water jet cutting and numerically at different velocities on the mechanical properties of a two directional laminate. The tests were conducted for a composite produced with the Resin Infusion Molding method with the use of the polymer matrix (Polimal 109-32K resin) reinforced with a two-directional glass fabric (+/- 45 degrees Saertex). The highest forming efficiency was observed for samples cut at the angle of 45, whose a and E values were improved in comparison to mechanical cutting by 8 % and 19 %, respectively. A change of the character of curves for different cutting angles during numerical cutting was observed, which did not occur during water jet cutting at different velocities (3000, 5000 and 10000 m/min). For modeling of the mechanical properties it was assumed that the destruction of the glass laminate samples during cutting at different velocities occurred through the destruction of the critical layer, whose more stable mechanical properties were for the cutting velocity of 3000m/min.
