Abstract:

Corners under opening bending moment are a common case in design of RC structures and require carefully thought reinforcement. Five difference reinforcement details are analyzed in the paper using strut-and-tie method and FEM. The details have different set of loops, stirrups and diagonal bars. S&T method is used to determine the required reinforcement and stress degree factor of each corner. The analysis of axial forces in each S&T method scheme gives information about redistribution of forces between reinforcement and concrete. The results of S&T method suggest which corner detail seems to be recommendable. Then all the corners are analyzed with FEM in Abaqus software. Both linear and nonlinear analyses are performed. The following results are presented in the paper: nodal displacement, equivalent plastic strain at integration points and tensile damage at integration points. These results are compared with experimental tests.
