Abstract:

Some experimental results of image compression with the use of modified two-stage transform method are presented in the paper. Both the Wavelet Transform and Piecewise-Linear Transforms, such as the PWL (Periodic Walsh Piecewise-Linear) and the HPL (Haar Piecewise-Linear) are presented. A two-stage compression method, using wavelet and piecewise–linear transform is introduced. Some experimental results obtained with the use of the proposed compression method are enclosed. Comparison of effectiveness has been done in terms of classical quality criteria, such as the Mean Square Error (MSE) and the Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR).
