Abstract:

The purpose of research was the analysis of the effect of modern synthetic wax (low-viscosity modifier) on some rheological properties of bitumen. The experiment was conducted on samples of bitumen whose penetration was 35/50. Six variants of the modification were prepared by application the low-viscosity modifier in the range of 1.5 % to 4 % with changes every 0.5 %. The temperature of examination was established in the scope from 50 degrees C to 145 degrees C. Preliminary rheological examination of bitumen, which was subjected to modification, covered selected parameters such as: dynamic viscosity, penetration, softening point temperature, breaking point temperature and penetration index. Viscoelasticity characteristics were assessed in the aspect of a few rheological parameters such as: dynamic viscosity eta, complex modulus G*, phase angle phi in the scope of the frequency from 0.01 Hz up to 10 Hz. It was determined that the modifier indeed influences examined rheological parameters of bitumen in the amount of 1 % in relation to the bitumen. Simultaneously, it was established that there was a correlation between viscoelasticity properties of bitumen and mechanical features of representative hot mix asphalt.
